Michael Jackson Immortal Tour: How They Uphold The Legacy

MTV News gets a behind-the-scenes look at the Cirque Du Soleil tribute to the King of Pop.

NEWARK — Since its opening, <a href="/news/articles/1682347/michael-jackson-immortal-cirque.jhtml">Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour</a> by Cirque Du Soleil has honored the King of Pop through music, dance and acrobatics 117 times. Night after night, artists celebrate the life of the late Michael Jackson, but how do they take his iconic legacy and put it into a production? When the tour came to New York City this week, MTV News went behind the scenes to talk with the creative forces and performers to find out.The artists (all 65 of them) had limited time to train and learn choreography -- an especially difficult feat when it's honoring MJ's signature moves. It was a kind of pressure that creative director Tara Young certainly learned to channel into a positive force.<CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:755805/cp~vid%3D755805%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A755805" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER>"I think it is a pressure for sure; something I share with the whole building here is that we have nothing to prove, only to share," Young told MTV News. "We have an opportunity to share what Michael would have wanted to share and the pressure is only there to achieve excellence."For Felix Cane, a two-time world champion pole dancer who does a captivating performance to "Danger," it was all about using that pressure to help the audience to remember the pop icon. "You are sharing this passion with them, and this love of MJ. There's times in the show when some people and I, myself, might have shed a few tears."That pressure never felt as great as when the Jackson family sat in the front row at a show in Montreal, an experience Young described as "inspiring." When asked what MJ would think if he were sitting there with them, Young smiled, "He would feel such a sense of pride of what he has given us to work with. It evokes emotions in people that they didn't even know were going to come out."I think everyone feels inspired, which evokes a certain feeling of change," Young added. Oddly enough, the only people that have ever really asked the hard-edged actor to appear in videos happen to be Bieber and Jackson.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Michael Madsen Has A Soft Spot For Justin Bieber" id="vid:822276" width="415" height="255"></div>"Hardly ever [am I asked to be in videos], that was why it was kind of funny cause that doesn't usually happen," he told MTV News. It was that cinematic storyline that got Madsen interested."I didn't want to imagine myself on a trampoline with a lollipop, so I asked for the story. I realized it was almost like a film production; and of course, I kind of figured that it might be an interesting thing to do," he said about the Anthony Mandler-directed video. "I didn't know what to expect... I was surprised... They got me a good wardrobe. That was my shirt though. I brought my own shirt; those kinds of shirts are kind of rare."The story is so much Shakespearian; the couple, they run off together out the window," he later continued. "It's rather like that, I thought that was interesting. And I thought the kid, he had an enormous talent and he was very gracious to my sons and was very gracious to my family."It was actually those sons that convinced the Hawaiian-shirt-wearing "Kill Bill" star to make the video with Bieber. "Well I was surprised at first that the kid was interested in having me be part of his video," he recalled. "I went to my sons and I asked my boys, I asked my sons what they thought if I should if they thought I should do it or not. And, of course, they gently placed their hand on my shoulder and said 'Dad don't you realize who Justin Bieber is?' And I said 'Well, no, actually I didn't.' Even '90s girl group <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/04/26/tlc-reunion-tour-left-eye-hologram">TLC is rumored to be considering</a> a virtual version of <a href="/news/articles/1683858/left-eye-tlc-death.jhtml">the late Left Eye</a> on their upcoming tour.With all that talk, MTV News hit Times Square to ask fans which departed artists they would most like to see perform in hologram form. Yes, he is the biggest thing EVER to come out of Canada…eh? But the Justin Bieber overalls photo is hysterical – and I can’t believe he would wear them to meet the Prime Minister. This owes him fashion fail of the utmost degree. Even scrappy, tattooed, herion-addict looking celebrities usually make an attempt at cleaning up if they are going to meet a dignitary. I think I’ve seen characters like Tommy Lee wearing suits – even if they leave out the tie. So what if you are the biggest, most successful celebrity to come out of your country? Shouldn’t you at least throw on a button-up polo to meet the Prime Minister of said country? Sure. But my issue is not that he wore a ridiculous, striped, three-stooges outfit to accept a big award….it’s that he wore it in the first place. 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Track List Revealed

You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1229828">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</MTVNLINK> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div>Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album.The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. Demi Lovato 'Relates' To Britney Spears On 'X Factor'

'Factor' judge also says 'it would be an honor' to collaborate on music with Spears.

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lovato__demi/artist.jhtml">Demi Lovato</a> is having a blast as one of the four judges on <a href="/news/articles/1685141/demi-lovato-x-factor.jhtml">"The X Factor."</a> Nestled alongside <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>, Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, the onetime Disney princess has found her voice as a singing-competition referee. And she describes her judging style as tough but loving."Well, you know, I try to be positive as much as I can," she explained to MTV News on Sunday, just before she jetted to Miami for the show's boot camp. "But sometimes you've just got to tell people that singing is not for them. When I hear a good singer, sometimes I critique them so that they can be better. And it's not that they're bad."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Demi Lovato Explains Why She Comes Off As The 'Toughest' 'X Factor' Judge" id="vid:818024" width="415" height="255"></div>In fact, Lovato sometimes will go to bat for a singer despite what the other judges have to say. "But then when I hear someone that I absolutely love or someone that I believe in, I'll stick up for them, even if everyone else votes no," she said. "I'm really honest on the show and sometimes I come off as the toughest judge. I guess you can say I speak my mind."So, which of those other judges does she agree with most at the end of the day? "It's unpredictable. Like sometimes I cannot see what Simon sees in the people he puts through. And same with Britney," she explained. "I'm like, 'Britney, what are you thinking?' But there are more times I relate with Britney [better] than Simon, actually. Maybe because we're the two girls on the show."While her focus on set is to judge the show, when asked if she and Britney have talked about making any music together, she said, "It would be an honor, but no plans yet."Lovato, who in addition to judging the show is also on her <a href="/news/articles/1688267/demi-lovato-holmdel-nj-show.jhtml">summer tour</a>, added that she has no regrets about signing on. "Everyone's amazing," she said. Sitting down to dish about her career in film, Marion Cotillard attended "TimesTalk Presents: An Evening with Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon and Gus Van Sant" at the The TimesCenter in New York City on Tuesday (November 27).

The Academy Award-winning actress looked gorgeous in a multi-pattern black and white number as she took her seat in front of the live audience.

Speaking of her already-impressive accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Marion can now add Gotham Independent Film Awards honoree to her list of achievements.

Simon Cowell is clearly feeling better — after missing <a href="/news/articles/1687133/x-factor-judges-performances-fighting.jhtml">"The X Factor" auditions in Kansas City, Missouri,</a> due to a bout of bronchitis — and he's talking <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>.Cameramen from <a href="http://www.x17online.com/celebrities/simon_cowell/simon_cowell_says_britney_spears_not_unstable_claims_he_is_video_061412.php" target="_blank">X17</a> caught up with Cowell while he was riding in his town car in Beverly Hills, and they found the oft-testy reality-show judge and music executive to be in a particularly good mood. Cowell addressed a variety of tabloid rumors regarding Spears — namely that she's had some issues on set and that she's shaping up to be one of the tougher judges.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Britney Spears Explains Why She Wanted To Be A Part Of 'X Factor'" id="vid:769620" width="415" height="255"></div>When a cameraman asked whether "Britney's too unstable" to judge "X Factor," Cowell responded, "No, she's not unstable. "Yeah, I'd say Simon Cowell is a great guy," he quipped. "Very good looking."Pressed further about Spears, Cowell offered more praise for the pop singer. "Like I said, she's been amazing. She's really taking time to learn how to do this," he continued. "She's got her confidence up. Once people give her a chance, I think people are really going to get her. It will be a big surprise.
